Moving up through the zoom ranges of the lens you are able to utilize it for more of a portrait photography lens to capture some beautiful portraits of the guests at the wedding. Its lower level zoom range is good for a more wide angle style photograph where you want to get as much of the surrounding area of your subject in the photo as possible. Some of these wedding photographers have posted reviews (click here to read some of them) of their experiences of photographing weddings using it that we would recommend you read.īeing a decent little zoom lens with a variable focal length of 28-70mm allows you to use this lens in a number of situations to capture the wedding as best you can. The lens has proven very popular over the years and also has a number of wedding photographers using at as their lens of choice. ![]() The first lens that we will be covering and the one that we would probably crown the best overall lens for wedding photography when using a Nikon d7200 camera is the Nikon 28-70mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF-S (Click here to check for product prices and availability). Of course, stacking it over the UV is not a thing to recommend, but it is easy to check the consequences yourself. (just hope I don't forget to take it off lol). what I prefer to do would be to "Stack" it (so I can quickly put it on, and off). Extension tubes have more effect with shorter FLs and are best used with shorter primes.Ģ) * fyi: I use a UV on both lens (Heliopan). You can also use a teleconverter - you will get more magnification at the same minimum focus distance (opposed to close-ups and extension tubes that give you more magnification at reduced working distance). Still you may find it does not magnify enough, this is what macros are for.Ģ50D +4 diopters is optimized for shorter FLs (up to 130mm) but is only available with a smaller diameter and it may vignette (?). lolġ) Is the 70-200 VR II the better solution, vs the 24-70? with the 500D close-up lens ?Ī +2 diopter achromat such as the 500D is better on the longer lens, will not magnify much on a short FL lens. and I am trying to shoot, up close to the subject.ĪND, it almost costs me nothing to try it. on these kinds of Detail shots, a lot of times I don't have a lot of room. I like the 55mm focal length because often a lot of the details are shot in very tight quarters, and there just isn't room to deploy a 100mm or longer Macro lens. Have found LV when I have to Manual Focus a macro shot, makes it sooo easy. Just wish I could "also" figure out a way to use LV (to focus) and handhold Creatively, I just can't imagine shooting details with AF on. The way I see it, autofocus on macro lens is a bit iffy - how in the world is the lens to know what section of the scene to focus on when you're dealing with such limited depth of field anyway. Wow, my Hoodman 3" loop for the LCD is almost as much lol. They can be found on ebay for around $100, and are incredibly sharp. that the Nikon 55mm f/2.8 Micro AI manual focus really serves this purpose well. Tamron 90 is another good choice, and I believe a Tokina 100 (but I have not used the Tokina). ![]() I generally prefer the Sigma 150mm for macro AND portrait, but you will usually need a tripod and you might think it a bit long. The Nikon 105 VR springs to mind if hand-held. Will this be handheld or on a tripod? What focal length would you like to help as a portrait lens? There are some superb 3rd party macro lenses too. I probably could, "hang" with shooting with the 24-70 f2.8 and crop in for now. My gut feeling is, the 105 f2.8 or VRII ver is probably not for me.Īny rumors of a Fast -er than f2.8 Macro with VR II? comming soon? (and something I have)Īnd the 105 f2.8 Macro VR II is not as sharp as I would expect a macro lens to be. but, have a feeling as a portrait lens the 70-200 VR II is better. have seen files on the old 105 f2.8 on a wedding shoot. Have used Macro lens at 100 f2 efl are much sharper but, that's the past ![]() and just from what I saw on that test, it did not look impressive.
